Several lightning strikes were reported in the area.

ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. —

A good Samaritan who spotted a lightning strike near a house quickly called 911 just as a fire sparked at the home.

Tim Hunter was driving down Lou Drive in Rockdale County when he saw the lightning strike.

“When that lightning hit, I felt my car shake,” Hunter said. “This was the biggest bolt of lightning I’ve ever seen. I mean, this bolt of lightning looked like it was five or six feet wide. So, when I saw that, I was like, something’s happened.”

Within seconds he spotted flames coming from the home and called 911.

Homeowner Douglas Brown said Hunter was a godsend and he’s crediting Hunter for the quick response from firefighters that spared his home from further damage.

Brown said his family just purchased the house eight months ago and everything inside was new.
