An inmate at the Clayton County jail gave birth to a baby in her cell early Saturday but the child died, according to the sheriff.
CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. —
A local sheriff is investigating the death of a child born at the Clayton County jail.
Clayton County Sheriff Kim Kimbrough said a 5-month-old- preganant inmate gave birth unexpectedly in a toilet inside her cell on Saturday morning. The baby later died at Southern Regional Medical Center.
He said a preliminary investigation does not indicate jail employees acted inappropriately in responding to the inmate.
Kimbrough said will comment more about the incident after results of the initial investigation are sent to him.
