ATLANTA —

A home intruder was shot in the leg during a break-in in Buckhead, police said.

Channel 2’s Sophia Choi talked to the owner of the gated home on West Paces Ferry and Northside drives, where the shooting happened.

Police said a man broke into the house by kicking in a side door. The homeowner said the alarm tipped him off, so he grabbed his shotgun. He said he saw the intruder and shot into the air as a warning, but the man continued up the stairwell. The homeowner said he then shot into the ground, but the bullet somehow hit the suspect in the leg.

Police said they were called to the scene shortly after 2 a.m. They said the suspect, 26-year-old Willaim Leisy, was intoxicated and told officers the home belonged to him. Leisy was charged with burglary and treated at the hospital.
