Hit-and-run victim dies, new charges possible

ATLANTA —

An elderly man who was hit while walking his dog in south Fulton County died this week.

Jack Turner, 79, was struck by a car on Carlton Road in Palmetto on Oct. 28 near the adult care facility where he lived. Turner had been in Grady Hospital since the incident with internal injuries and broken bones.

The suspect in the case, James Wood, has already been charged in connection with the hit-and-run crash but police said that investigators could file additional charges following Turner’s death.

Police located Wood after releasing a series of surveillance photos taken from a nearby convenience store.

Two workers at the care facility heard the accident and found Turner lying in the road. His dog ran away and was not located.

Services for Turner will take place Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan.
