BUFORD, Ga. —

A bat infestation has several Buford families looking for a new place to live.

After years of residents dealing with the bats, a resident called the Gwinnett County Health Department, which has shut down the apartment building on Power Road.

Residents said the bats have been a persistent problem, and that the animals are not confined to the attic, they come inside the apartments.

“You can hear them sometimes when you’re asleep,” one resident said.

The four families who lived in the apartments packed up and moved out Thursday night. The health department said the building is a health hazard and the families cannot move back in until the bats are gone.

The Red Cross has put the families in a hotel.

Residents said they had already complained to the landlord, but nothing came of it.

The landlord did not return Channel 2’s calls, but a man who said he was the landlord’s brother told Sophia Choi he tried to do everything he could to remove the bats.
