Channel 2 Action News has learned a special grand jury intends to question former Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill as part of an investigation into corruption.

 The grand jury started an investigation into Hill in April and has subpoenaed documents from the Georgia Government Transparency and Campaign Finance Commission, but now it appears the panel wants to talk to the former sheriff himself.

 “He has received a subpoena to appear before a special purpose grand jury,” Frey told Channel 2 investigative reporter Mark Winne.

 “The one investigating corruption in Clayton County?” Winne asked.

 “I suppose so, yes,” Frey responded. “He believes he’s done nothing wrong and he’s prepared to answer questions.”

 Sources tell Winne the special grand jury is looking at the use of county credit cards, the handling of campaign finances, if there was personal travel using county equipment, if county employees engaged in campaign or personal business for Hill.

 Hill denies any wrongdoings and Frey said that routine audits would have turned up any violations long ago.

 Frey said Hill is willing to do an interview, but is busy campaigning for the same sheriff seat he lost in 2008 to current Sheriff Kem Kimbrough.

 A special grand jury could return an indictment or just a presentment, which criticizes or compliments the subject of their investigation. Frey told Winne a decision could be close.

 “Obviously I don't know anything about what’s going on with the grand jury, but I would suspect the subpoenaing of Victor Hill would mark at least something close to the end of it,” Frey said.
