GRIFFIN, Ga. —
A 5-year-old girl is recovering after she was mauled by three dogs outside her own home.
Police said the dogs attacked the girl Wednesday afternoon on Ruth Street in Griffin.
She was airlifted to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston with severe injuries to her face and head.
Witnesses told Channel 2’s Eric Philips the girl was in her own back yard when she was mauled by her family pets, two dogs and a puppy.
“And I heard a little girl hollering, ‘Help. Help. Help.' Three dogs on top of her,” neighbor Nicholas White said.
White said he along with two others tried hitting the dog with a pipe and a two by four. When police arrived, they shot a pit bull that was on top of her, putting an end to the attack.
The dog that was killed will be tested for rabies. The other two are in the custody of Animal Control.
