CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. —

A former Carroll County school board member is being held in the county jail, accused of holding his wife at gunpoint.

Deputies said they arrived at Mike Huckeba's home in Roopville and found him locked in a bedroom with his wife.

Huckeba's son's girlfriend called 911 when she heard Huckeba's wife screaming, according to authorities.

Deputies said they did not realize they faced a hostage situation until Huckeba's son arrived and kicked down the bedroom door, exposing his father holding the gun. Huckeba closed the door and refused surrender for more than an hour.

Huckeba is charged with false imprisonment, aggravated assault, burglary and other charges. He resigned from the Carroll County School Board earlier this year to spend more time with his family.
