Football coach accused of sexting players’ mom

By Erin Coleman

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. —

A popular DeKalb County high school football coach was suspended after a parent accused him of sexting her.

Michael Carson, head coach at Martin Luther King Jr. High School, is now off the field. A school representative told Channel 2 Action News reporter Erin Coleman a confrontation happened during a football game Saturday night.

“My understanding is that there were some nude photographs involved,” DeKalb County Schools spokesman Jeff Dickerson said.

School leaders said Davida Bishop, the mother of two of Carson’s players, showed other people in the stadium nude photographs of the coach. Dickerson said the coach sent her the unwanted photos via text message.

“Following that, the DeKalb police arrived on the scene and tried to gather as much information as possible. In the meantime, the coach was suspended,” Dickerson added.

Students, staff, even the coach’s wife may have seen the pictures, officials said. When Channel 2 went to Carson’s Clayton County home to get his side, no one answered, but a woman at the home said, “You can go away” several times.

“We want to talk to everyone involved. We want to question everyone involved. We want to get to the bottom of this story. It’s (being) taken very, very seriously,” Dickerson said.

The district called the incident an ethics violation. It is not clear whether formal charges will follow for Carson or Bishop, who may have shown the pictures to minors.

Carson is on paid leave pending the outcome of the investigation. He also can not have any contact with any students.
