Channel 2 Action News has learned the FBI is now investigating a security breach involving Nationwide Insurance that puts thousands of Georgians’ personal information at risk.

"Social Security numbers were discovered. Dates of birth were discovered. Driver's license numbers were discovered," said Jay Florence, with the Georgia Division of Insurance.

He said it's enough information to harm someone's credit, and encourages customers to call his office.

The breach affects about 30,000 people in the state, but a Nationwide representative wouldn’t say how many people are affected across the country. She did say customers are receiving assistance.

"Each affected individual will be contacted by mail and will be provided a free credit monitoring and identity theft product. Nationwide is not aware of any misuse of personal information at this time," Nationwide spokeswoman Elizabeth Christopher Giannetti told Channel 2’s Shae Rozzi in an emailed statement.
