Father says he found marijuana pipe in loaner car

MARIETTA, Ga. —

Two parents are furious after finding a pipe in a car dealership loaner car.

The father told Channel 2’s Eric Philips he found a marijuana pipe in the back seat of a car loaned to his wife by Jim Ellis Volkswagen in Marietta while her car was being serviced.

“My wife could be in jail. My kids could be in DFACS (Division of Family and Children Services) custody, all because of someone leaving drug paraphernalia in a loaner car,” the father said.

When his wife brought the car back the next day, she said she did not get the sense that management took the situation seriously enough.

“I apologized and said there was a breakdown in the process. We take this stuff seriously. I’ve been doing this for 34 years and it’s never happened to me. I asked her what I could do to make her more comfortable, she just wanted to get her car and leave,” the dealership’s general manager told Philips.

The father said the incident forced him to have a discussion about drugs paraphernalia with his 8 and 14-year-old daughters that he did not want to have.

The family called the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office when they discovered the pipe. The dealership’s general manager said he will cooperate fully with any investigation and he has told his staff to be more thorough when cleaning and inspecting loaner cars.
