2 killed, 1 injured in Cobb Co. crash

COBB COUNTY, Ga. —

Channel 2 has learned that a driver and one of the passengers inside of the car was killed in a crash after the driver tried to flee from Cobb County police early Saturday morning.

A second passenger was also injured in the accident that happened at the southbound ramp to I-75 from Cumberland Boulevard, police said.

Prior to the crash, officers had observed a blue 1996 Cadillac westbound on Windy Hill Road near Leland Drive commit several traffic violations, police said.   Officers attempted to stop the car, but its driver refused to stop and sped onto the I-75 southbound ramp.

Officers, who lost sight of the car on the exit ramp to Cumberland Boulevard, said they later discovered the Cadillac upside down on its roof , with fire present as they approached the southbound ramp from Cumberland Boulevard.

"Evidence at the scene indicates the Cadillac continued south through the intersection and struck two concrete curbs and a retaining wall before coming to rest on the roof," Cobb County Police Officer Mike Bowman said.

Police have withheld the identities of those involved pending the investigation.

Anyone with information is requested to contact the Cobb County Police Department S.T.E.P. Unit at 770-499-3987.
