SUGAR HILL, Ga. —
A Sugar Hill man is accused of driving drunk on a suspended license to pick up his son from football practice.
Mark Lockwood said he picked up his son from Gary Pirkle Park before a deputy arrested him. He was stopped about a mile down the road from his home.
Channel 2’s Michael Buczyner found Lockwood riding his lawnmower in front of his Sugar Hill home Friday night.
"I’m really not that bad of a guy," Lockwood said.
According to a Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department report, a deputy trailing Lockwood's SUV Tuesday night noticed Lockwood's 7-year-old son was in the car and not wearing a seat belt.
"The only reason my son was out of his seat belt because two seconds he gets to that stop sign, he likes to air out himself," Lockwood said.
The reporting deputy said the father also failed to stop at this intersection, and that's when he was pulled over.
"He said I ran a stop sign. Lie," Lockwood said.
Lockwood told the deputy he had a few beers but that he wasn't drunk.
"I had a couple of drinks, but I sat there and drank the whole cup of water," Lockwood said.
He said he regrets the Tuesday incident.
"I regret that I didn't wait on my wife to come pick me up," Lockwood said.
