DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. —
A DeKalb County man is so fed up with speeders in his neighborhood he has decided to spend thousands of dollars on two-speed radar signs. John McMullan lives off of The By Way where the posted speed limit is 25 miles per hour. "I want the traffic to slow down, I don't want to live in a dangerous neighborhood," he told Channel 2's Erica Byfield. McMullan estimates drivers typically coast down his street at 40-60 mph. On Tuesday, DeKalb County's commissioners agreed to allow McMullan to buy the signs. "We really appreciate his civic mindedness in this. I think that people understand that localities are under a great deal of pressure," said Commissioner Jeff Rader, who represents McMullan's area. Combined, the solar signs cost $9,730. They should be installed within a month. DeKalb County has agreed to cover all maintenance costs. "I understand the financial issue for the county, everyone would like these devices, these devices are very effective, I know they slow me down," said McMullan.
A Channel 2 Action News investigation found that in Georgia, people who have a temporary protective order against them can still keep their weapons.
