The DeKalb County School Board has responded to questions raised by a national accrediting agency about whether the district was meeting its accreditation standards.
In August, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) sent DeKalb a letter accusing the school district it of being poor financial stewards, interfering with budgeting procedures and trying to influence hiring personnel.
In a four-page response, which was emailed out Wednesday night to parents, Superintendent Cheryl Atkinson said the district has implemented plans to improve all standards, including a plan to undergo a forensic audit of the district’s financial records.
Last year, SACS put the DeKalb County School Board on advisement, a step below full accreditation.
