Crews repair water main break in Sandy Springs

By Amy Napier Viteri

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. —

Crews in Sandy Springs repaired a water main break that leaked for several hours onto Mount Vernon Highway and re-routed traffic.

The road was blocked between Riverside Drive and Glen Oaks Drive as crews worked to stop the flow of water before they could excavate to begin repairs. Neighbors lost water as crews started repair work. Neighbor Walter Hood told Channel 2's Amy Napier Viteri it wasn't too much of an inconvenience.

"We'll shower in the morning. I have bottled water," Hood said.

Once crews got water turned off they began work to reach the broken main and assess damage before starting repairs. Many drivers were caught off guard by the blocked road and had to find alternate routes. Driver Tony Collins said he would like to see taxpayer resources go toward long-term repairs.

"They're talking about a T-SPLOST for transportation but no one has talked about putting in something for some sort of tax for infrastructure improvements," he said.

Crews said the repairs would take several hours.
