Credit card fraud victim helps catch alleged suspect

By Craig Lucie

HENRY COUNTY, Ga. —

After a Gwinnett County woman found out she was a victim of credit card fraud, she helped Henry County Police catch their suspect.

"She had hit like 15 local Office Depots in the area," said credit card victim Geri Williams.

Williams said Rose Marie Tannery has been busy the past few months committing credit card fraud.

"She got $1,000 before they shut my account down. She got 15 others too. That's $15,000 of other people's money, and I work hard for my money," explained Williams.

Williams said her bank called her after spotting the charges for computers at a Stockbridge Office Depot. She called police and the manager at the Office Depot.

The manager told Williams that the person who bought the computers hadn't come to pick them up, but he would keep an eye out. Then police said Rose Marie Tannery showed up.

"He (manager) told her that he needed a credit card to release it and says, 'Let me go back and see if I can release it without the credit card,' because she apparently left it at home or whatever and at that time, he called police," explained Williams.

The Office Depot manager told Williams they were familiar with the way Tannery did business.

"She had 20 something logons, and different user names and stuff. She had hit 15 stores in last 30 days and they were looking for her," Williams said.

Channel 2's Craig Lucie went looking for her too, but she wasn't home and her neighbors didn't answer their doors when he tried to ask them about Tannery.

Williams said after her experience she has some advice.

"Pay attention to your account and get these people caught. Stop them," said Williams.

Williams still doesn't know how Tannery got her credit card numbers.

Tannery is facing several charges, including financial fraud and theft by deception in Clayton County. The Henry County Police Department also has an ongoing investigation into Tannery's past.
