Cobb County police charged a 58-year-old woman’s son with her stabbing death Monday afternoon.

Damian Cornell Purdue McElrath is currently being held in Cobb County Jail and charged in the death of his mother, Diane McElrath.

Police were called to a home on Ashley Drive off Barrett Parkway by a man who claimed he had stabbed his mother "and she was likely dead."

When police arrived on the scene, they found Damian McElrath outside the home and arrested him immediately.

Inside, police said they found the victim's body.

Neighbors said the teen arrested by police appeared to be a resident of the home who has been in trouble before and was recently released from jail.
