CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. —

Two Cherokee County firefighters have been arrested in connection with stealing medicine on the job, authorities said.

Canton residents Jarad Jones, 25, and Johnathan Wayne Thomas, 34, are behind bars in the Cherokee Adult Detention Center, following an undercover investigation into missing medicine vials on the county ambulance, Cherokee County Sheriff’s officials said.

Officials suspect that Thomas, who is being held without bond, stole medicine with the intent to sell.

He is being held without bond for several charges including Sell of Hydrocodone, Felony Possession of Marijuana and Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance, officials said.

Jones, who turned himself in one day after his colleague’s arrest Wednesday afternoon, has been charged with Felony Theft by Taking charges.  He is accused of stealing Fentanyl, a liquid pain killer, from a Cherokee County ambulance last year.

Investigators believe Jones stole the Fentanyl on more than one occasion and that the drug was used for his personal use.

Jones’ bond is set at $5,700.00, as there may be more arrests in this pending investigation, authorities said.
