COVINGTON, Ga. —

Covington police have arrested a man suspected of shooting into a woman's car and killing her on Friday.

Police said Hannibal McMullen surrendered to investigators around 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Witnesses said they saw and heard shots fired from a blue Toyota Corolla into a silver Dodge Ram as both vehicles were driving down Washington Street near Carroll Street around 11 a.m. Friday morning, police said.

The truck crashed into an awning  and the woman inside, Ketitra Techelle Jopnes, died from a gunshot wound, police said.

McMullen, who had previously had a relationship with Jones, was immediately identified as a suspect. Police credited McMullen's family and friends for communicating with him and convincing him to turn himself in.

McMullen has been charged with murder.
