$7,000 in weave stolen from Conyers

By Jeff Dore

CONYERS, Ga. —

The string of thefts of human hair from salons and beauty supply stores in Metro Atlanta continues.

The latest target was S.J. Beauty Supply on West Avenue in Conyers. At 3 a.m. Thursday, three thieves drove to the front door, threw a rock through the glass, then, used their bodies as battering rams to smash through what was left of it.

Surveillance video shows they ran directly to the most expensive hair extensions. Owner Sun Garmon said they grabbed more than $7,000 worth and a laptop computer, then ran out. The whole caper, Conyers police said, took 60 seconds.

Because these kinds of thefts have become so common in the metro area, Conyers police had beefed up patrols around beauty shops. But Lt. Jackie Dunn told Channel 2 Action News it’s very difficult to catch someone in the act of a one-minute crime. He said the thieves sell some of it to unscrupulous salons for a fraction of its worth. This was the first hair theft break-in in Conyers.
