A Roswell gas station owner believes someone went to great measures to fill their tank for free.
The owner of a BP on Holcomb Bridge Road told Channel 2's Mike Petchenik someone pried open several pumps, disabled the gas gauge, and stole about 1,200 gallons of mid-level and premium gasoline worth close to $5,200.
"Every time you’ve seen it all, something happens again," said Robert Eaves. http://bcove.me/gwnuq146
Eaves said he believes the thieves likely struck over several days and did it in the middle of the day when other cars were around.
“They’ve learned to do it pretty quickly now," he said. "They’re trying to cover it up and it’ll just take a few more security measures.”
Eaves said the theft will put a big dent in his small business.
"I think the people who are doing it see the BP sign, think, ‘It’s big oil. They’ll never miss it.’ But in reality, I’m a father, I’m a husband. I’m trying to make ends meet as well.”
Roswell police told Petchenik they've assigned a detective to track down leads in the case.
"Hopefully, it won’t take too long to bring them to justice," said Eaves.
