I want justice for my nephew, and I want justice for anyone who has to go through this. My heart is broken right now," Kamelah Hampton told Channel 2's Sophia Choi.

DECATUR, Ga. —

DeKalb County police are investigating the death of a 23-year-old shot in front of his home.

Channel 2's Sophia Choi went to the home on Clifton Farm Drive in Decatur, where family members pleaded for answers.

"I want justice for my nephew, and I want justice for anyone who has to go through this. My heart is broken right now," Kamelah Hampton told Choi.

She said her nephew had just taken out the trash and was sitting in a car in the driveway when he was ambushed. He said someone crept up from behind the house and shot the man in the chest and head around 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

“I heard three gunshots and then after that, I heard a car speed off. I didn’t see the car,” neighbor Lakita Amis said. “When I looked out, his momma was screaming.”

Family members said the victim was sitting in the back of a friend’s car during the shooting, and two people were sitting in the front. Relatives said a woman in the car was questioned by police, but they don’t know her role.

“To have his life cut short like this over some foolishness, we don’t know what this was all about,” relative Melvin Hampton said.

The victim had just left the concert promotion business to begin a new job training as a chef.

Police are still looking for the shooter.
