GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. —
The incident happened on March 17 at Summerour Middle School on Mitchell Road in Norcross.
Channel 2’s Kerry Kavanugh first learned about the incident when a Channel 2 Action News viewer emailed her a memo that was sent to staff members. The email came from a parent upset they were not notified as well. The letter outlined a series of events that occurred about 8 p.m. March 17.
A man got out of his car, removed his clothes and walked around the school building, then returned to his car, the memo said.
The man then drove along the bus lane in his car while nude as other cars picked up children from the baseball fields next to the school, according to the letter.
School officials determined the incident only affected staff and there was no threat to students.
School spokesman Jorge Quintana told Kavanaugh the teacher who witnessed the man reported it to school officials the following morning.
School officials determined the incident was no threat to students so they did not notify parents.
"Since this happened late at night when only school staff was on campus, that's why the school felt the notice was only appropriate for school staff," Quintana said.
Kavanaugh spoke to a parent who lives across the street from the school. She was shocked to hear about what the teacher saw.
"That makes me want to put my kids in the house and lock the door," said parent Bonnie Cocchi.
"We have many teachers who work late at night at our schools, so the administration team wanted them to just be on the lookout and be careful," said Quintana.
Gwinnett school police are working with Norcross police to find the man. They have a vague description of the man. Officers said he was driving an older-model Toyota or Nissan.
