Jonesboro High Evacuated; Student Arrested

 

JONESBORO, Ga. —

Police arrested a 17-year-old student Tuesday afternoon for releasing a "chemical irritant" inside Jonesboro High School in Clayton County, forcing the evacuation of the school and bringing out Hazardous Materials teams.

School officials told WSB-TV Channel 2 Action News that four students suffered "minor irritation" and were treated by paramedics at the school.

Firefighters in Hazmat suits entered the school to determine the cause of the problem. A tent was set up outside Jonesboro High to wash down any potential victims.

Video from News Chopper 2 shows students being loaded onto buses and moved from the school.

The 11th and 12th graders were taken to Mt. Zion High School for the rest of the day. Ninth and 10th graders remained at Jonesboro High, but attended classes in the Clayton County Performing Arts Center.
