The Coweta County commissioners have approved a new T-Mobile tower on Lower Fayette Road, between Sullivan Road and Shenandoah Boulevard. Opponents said the last thing they need in their backyards is a huge tower disguised as a tree.

“This monster of a tower is within 500 feet of my home,” resident Alice Henry said.

Opponents said they tower will hurt their already depressed property values and could be a health threat.

“I'm an electrical engineer. I don't want to live underneath radiation. I work from home,” Lori Schramm said.

Jeremy and Ginger Lynn said they even looked at buying a new house far away from the giant cell phone tree, but they said today's economic realities made that impossible.

“I think what we're going to do is just maybe try and orient the kids on the other side of house far enough away from, as far as possible from the proposed site,” Jeremy Lynn told Channel 2’s Richard Elliot.

But supporters said cell coverage in that part of the county is spotty at best, and it needs more towers.

Opponents said construction could begin pretty soon. They said they're investigating possible legal options to stop it.
