Homeowner Opens Fire On Potential Robbers

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. —

Clayton County police officers searched for two men who tried to rob a man selling firewood Tuesday afternoon.

Clayton County police officials confirmed that two men pretended to buy wood from a man who lives on Lake Harbin Road in Morrow.

After the men loaded the wood into their car, they asked if they could come in the house to wash their hands. Police said the men then attempted to rob the homeowner, Bill Dowis.

"He wanted to wash his hands and then he pulled a pistol and took me down the hall and got my money," said Dowis.

The man made Dowis lie face down on his bedroom floor. But Dowis had a .357 Magnum locked and loaded next to his bed. He began firing.

The men ran to their car and drove away.

"He was pointing a gun at me and I shot and he fell up against the car and then they took off. I shot three times at the car as they went down there," said Dowis.

Police said the men got away with the firewood but not the money.

Police do not know if either man was shot by the homeowner.
