Georgia's Rosenwald Schools for African Americans
Someone once said education's purpose is to replace an empty mind with an open one. For decades, colsed minds prevented black children here in Georgia from having the same quality of education as their white counterparts. But in the early 1900's a unique partnership was born that ignited change in the south. The Rosenwald Schools for African Americans. The Rural School Building Program of the Julius Rosenwald Fund that was established in 1917, provided financial grants for the construction of public schools for African Americans throughout the South. Between 1912 and 1932, contributions from the Rosenwald Fund helped to build 4,977 new schools for African Americans in fifteen southern states. In Georgia 242 schools were constructed with the aid of Rosenwald funds. For more information visit www.gashpo.org.

The 2010 hurricane season is now underway. Plus, we’re just three months away from the anniversary of the Georgia floods. Knowing the kind of devastation severe weather like that brings, we want you to be prepared. Once again we’re partnering with the Georgia Emergency Management Agency and Kroger to ensure that all of Georgia is ready. Visit the Ready Georgia website to fill out a personal profile designed specifically for you and your family. The Ready Georgia campaign begins June 9th and runs through July 19th. Georgia Meth Project
Earlier this year the Georgia Meth Project launched a state-wide media campaign to reduce meth use in the state and to protect those who are living with the consequences of this growing problem. The Georgia Meth Project will host a public forum at the Galleria Conference Center in Warner Robbins on Thursday, June 10th at 12:30 pm. Families, law enforcement, public officials and others will come together to discuss issues related to meth abuse. For more information visit www.georgiamethproject.org.
Ben Massell Dental Clinic
No one should have to wait three months to a year to receive dental care, but for many un-insured and indigent patients, that’s their way of life. For nearly a century the Ben Massell Dental Clinic has been there for Atlanta’s underserved. Now, the men and women who serve at the only volunteer clinic in the United States are asking for your help to pay a smile forward. To pay a smile forward simply add one dollar to your next dental bill or ask your dentist to consider giving up half their day per month to serve at the Ben Massell Dental Clinic.
