ATLANTA —

Atlanta had a busy New Year's weekend, with bowl games, parades, concerts and the annual Peach Drop at Underground, it was a great way to start off the new year. But let's not forget all that 2005 brought us!

The Georgia Aquarium opened in November as the World's Largest Aquarium boasting 100,000 animals and 8 million gallons of water. It is quickly becoming a popular tourist destination.

Atlantic Station opened in Midtown, with plenty of dining, shopping and living--and don't forget the spectacular views of the city! And the High Museum unveiled a dramatic expansion with more space for more artwork.

There was also the tragedy of the Fulton County Courthouse shootings in March. Brian Nichols eventually surrendered thanks to Ashley Smith's urgings, but not before killing four people.

And who could forget runaway bride Jennifer Wilbanks? The entire country worried about the Duluth woman's whereabouts just days before her huge wedding, but she was found safely, with only cold feet to blame for her disappearance.

Atlanta became the new home for many hurricane evacuees looking for a fresh start after Hurricane Katrina devastated parts of Louisiana and Mississippi.

The city of Atlanta has seen amazing growth and promise over the past year and 2006 promises to bring the same. Happy New Year!
