Gwinnett Commissioner Kenerly Indicted In $1M Bribe

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. —

A grand jury indicted Gwinnett County commissioner Kevin Kenerly on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the indictment, Kenerly will face charges of bribery and failing to disclose his business relationship with developer David Jenkins.

Channel 2 first revealed Gwinnett County’s plans to purchase property from Jenkins in 2008 for millions of dollars more than a private appraisal showed it was worth.

District attorney Danny Porter said he would look into that deal and other land purchases.

The indictment alleges Kenerly was bribed with 20 payments of $50,000 each, for pushing those county purchases through.

As part of the investigation into the land deals, former commission Chairman Charles Bannister also testified before the Grand Jury earlier this month. Bannister resigned a few days later, citing a toll on his and his family's well-being.
