ATLANTA —
A jury found former Grady Memorial Hospital doctor Adam Lebowitz guilty of sex charges in February.
Former Grady Doctor Sentenced On Sex Charges
Lebowitz was found guilty of one count of producing child pornography and one count of attempt to coerce and entice a minor to engage in sexual activity.
Prosecutors said the since-fired emergency room physician, who is HIV-positive, videotaped himself having sex with two minors and then either transmitted the videos via the Internet or transported them across state lines.
Prosecutors also said Lebowitz met a 15-year-old Coweta County boy on the social networking website MySpace and traveled to the boy's home in an attempt to have sex with him in 2007.
Testimony indicated that the doctor brought condoms, lubricants, an extra pair of hospital scrubs and sleeping bags to the home.
Lebowitz had no idea the boy had immediately told his mother, Diane Spurling, about his advances and police were there to arrest him when he arrived.
On Monday, Spurling said about the sentence, “I’m thinking that hopefully he won’t get out. Of course, I wanted life without parole but 26 years? I’m OK with it.”
