Former Booster Club President Accused Of Stealing Money

FAYETTE COUNTY, Ga. —

The former president of a middle school booster club is now accused of stealing money from the program.

Police arrested Matt Trebuchon Thursday night after booster club officials noticed that nearly $10,000 was missing.

Trebuchon is accused of stealing nearly $10,000 from the J.C. Booth Middle School Booster Club. He was the president. Police believe Trebuchon stole the money to pay off tax problems.

"According to the report we have, he told the assistant principal that he'd been having tax problems that he had to take care of after he was confronted at home about the missing monies," said Chief James Murray with the Peachtree City Police Department.

The current booster club at J.C. Booth voted to press charges Thursday, even after Trebuchon reportedly paid back some of the money.

"They voted in favor of doing this because they want to send the message they do not condone what has happened," said Melinda Berry-Dreisbach with the Fayette County Schools.

The booster club said they have already put new safeguards in place to make sure it won’t happen again.

"I think that's kinda crazy, I wouldn't think that kind of crime would go on here," said parent Patrick Moran.

Parents at J.C. Booth were shocked to hear the news that the former president of the booster club is not only charged with that crime but that there were no checks in place to prevent it.

"It's kind of a shame as far as the kids go because you bring them to schools and you hope they're going to get the best and then somebody gets in there that's a rotten apple," said Moran.

Trebuchon is also the Georgia director of USSSA baseball -- a national youth baseball organization and is the president of First Class Events.
