FAIRBURN, Ga. —
Fifty-five to 60 firefighters battled the fire at the intersection of Roosevelt Highway and highway 92, but the building was a total loss.
At least 10 businesses were housed in the building, including an antique mall, a hair salon and Oz Pizza.
"Near 1 o'clock this morning we received notification that there was a possible structure fire in the commercial structure of Oz Pizza," said Jody Weller of the Fairburn Fire Department.
High winds fanned the flames and sent them through the windows, reaching higher than the roof of the two-story building.
"The winds made a big difference, they pushed it," said Weller.
The Fairburn Fire Department called for help from nearby departments.
Firefighters from Palmetto, Union City, Fulton County and Fayette County were on the scene.
Weller said there were no sprinklers in the building.
Police closed several streets in the area including highway 29 at West Campbellton Street, as well as parts of Cole, Mullis, Smith and Malone streets.
