NORCROSS, Ga. —
Carole Boyd, 58, died a week ago today near the intersection of Georgia 400 and Georgia 20.
Channel 2's Erica Byfield spoke to Boyd's family. Her daughter, Lisa Dalton, told Byfield that Boyd had a passion for life.
Dalton said her mother loved fishing, being outdoors in general and spending time with her family, which that is the very reason she was driving down the stretch of road last Sunday morning.
“I guess we are holding up as well as we can be. We are really confused,” Dalton said.
A week later, Dalton said she still feels numb. Her mother, who had an infectious smile, is gone.
Police said it was about 7:50 in the morning when Boyd was driving back from Jasper and had just approached the intersection when a drunken driver slammed into her.
“You never expect that,” Dalton said.
Police charged Jason Everitt, 33, with first degree vehicular homicide, DUI and failure to obey traffic control changes.
Everitt is a pilot with Atlantic Southeast Airlines.
Standing outside near her garden, Dalton told Byfield she does not know much more about him.
Right now, she said her concern is her family.
“We are just taking it one day at a time, dealing with every emotion that comes across,” Dalton said.
Dalton said her mother drove a school bus for Gwinnett County for more than 25 years and was working two jobs in the hope of retiring soon.
She said Boyd also loved her grandchildren.
Dalton's daughter was the first born.
“She refused to leave the hospital until she got to hold her for the first time. I really wanted everyone to know how much she loved life and how much she loved her family and her friends,” Dalton said.
Boyd's children said they plan to add a cross near the intersection to remember their mother.
