ROSWELL, Ga. —

Roswell police said officers will try to find out who hacked into a student’s Facebook account and posted threatening comments.

Facebook Post Threatens Gun At Roswell School

The posts included talk of bringing a gun to school, and police said officers are taking the threat seriously.

“A 13-year-old girl at Crabapple Middle School received it off her Facebook account,” explained Lt. James McGee of the Roswell Police Department.

According to a Roswell Police Department incident report, a student received the threatening Facebook messages from a fellow student’s account.

One of the messages talked about bringing a knife to school, the other message mentioned a gun.

“We take it seriously because the first thing that comes to mind is Columbine,” said McGee.

Investigators spoke with the owner of the Facebook account, but they now believe someone hacked into her account.

Police said her father told officers someone even changed her password.

The family believes the hacker is the one posting the threatening messages, police said.

McGee said police always take any threat of violence at schools seriously.

“Those types of things are very inflammatory. We take it very seriously and we don’t discount it because the minute you try to discount it, that’s when something happens,” said McGee.

A school spokesperson told Channel 2 Action News there was no disruption to school operations at Crabapple Middle School on Monday.
