Emotional Funeral For MARTA Shooting Victim

MCDONOUGH, Ga. —

Family and friends gathered in McDonough to remember 19-year-old Anthony Beavers.

Beavers was shot and killed Wednesday on the southbound platform of the East Point MARTA station.

Police arrested 20-year-old Broderick Smith in connection with the shooting death.

Investigators said they believe the shooting happened after a scuffle over Beavers' cell phone.

Channel 2 Action News reporter George Howell spoke with relatives and close friends at Beavers' funeral.

"How could somebody kill a person over a cell phone?" said William Babcock, Beavers' brother.

"He's a forgiving guy, and everyone loved him. Everyone who came in contact with him, they loved him," said a friend of Beavers.

"It's really sad, and he's my brother, and I really loved him," said Babcock.

A police investigation regarding Beavers' death continues.
