Despite Rain, Atlanta Still May See Driest Year On Record

ATLANTA —

Although the metro area has received a half-inch of rain, forecasters say additional rainfall this weekend likely will determine whether this year becomes the driest on record.

The National Weather Service says the current record was set in 1954 when the area only had less than 32 inches of rain.

As of this morning, the area this year had just under 30 inches of rain.

Channel 2 Meteorologist Brad Nitz said heavy rain is expected Friday and again on Sunday.
