ATLANTA —
The burning was part of an effort to rid homes of dangerous, unused prescription drugs.
Last weekend, DEA agents held prescription pill drop-offs at numerous locations across the metro Atlanta area and nationwide.
Officials with the DEA told Channel 2 Action News reporter Mike Petchenik that five tons of prescription drugs were collected in the southeast. More than 3,100 pounds were collected from Georgia and 1,700 pounds from the metro Atlanta area.
The burning of some of the pills collected in Georgia took place at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation headquarters in Atlanta on Thursday. Other sites around the southeast were also burning the pills collected in their areas.
