An out-of-work viewer called Channel 2 Action News to complain about a Craigslist posting promising job opportunities with great pay and benefits at the airport. But the offer turned out to be a scam.

Too embarrassed to go on television, the woman told Channel 2's Ryan Young that she mailed them a fee and never heard back.

Young called the same number and got the following recording:

"The airlines at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport are currently hiring. We do have a one-time processing fee of $35."

Young then called airport officials to see if it was a legitimate recording, but they said they are not using American Careers to post jobs.

"As far as we are aware, this is a scam and job-seekers are urged not to reply to these 'fake' job postings when seeking employment at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport," their statement said.

Officials added that companies doing business with the airport do not work with employment agencies that charge job candidates for their services, Young said.

"If something appears to be too good to be true, it almost certainly is," John Sours from the Governor's Office of Consumer Protection said. "Nobody is going to get you a decent, good-paying job with benefits for a one-shot, $30 fee. It just doesn't work like that."

Sours said his office receives complaints like this on a daily basis.

Young caught up with some other unemployed Georgians who were angered by the hiring scam.

"That's wrong because there (are) a lot of us that are really in need," Donna Thomas said.
