Deputies say a man who admitted to falsely reporting a sniper attack is out of jail on a $5,900 bond.

Hampton residents say they were shocked to learn their neighbor admitted to lying about a sniper targeting school buses in their neighborhood.

Codarrius Rayshun Brewer was arrested on Saturday, after admitting to making false reports about a person pointing a gun at school buses near Paladin Drive in May.

Channel 2’s Sophia Choi was at the Clayton County jail, where Brewer's bond hearing was held Saturday morning.

"What? He was arrested," neighbor Daisy Gordon said. "I haven't seen him lately, so that's what happened to him? I can't believe it."

Police said Brewer admitted the reports were false after several interviews with detectives.

Police told Choi they interviewed approximately 200 students regarding the case and investigation leads came back to Brewer.

Channel 2 Action News interviewed Brewer about the incident in May.  At that time, Brewer claimed he ran after the sniper, and even identified a bullet hole in a fence.

He said the bullet hole came from the sniper trying to shoot at him.

Police said Brewer has since admitted to making the up the entire scenario. Police said Brewer not only lied, but he staged the whole scene to make it look real.

Neighbors said the hours and equipment used to investigate the hoax cost them "precious dollars."

"You not supposed to be making up stories about things like that and using up public taxpayers' money," Mike Nester said.

"I'm just happy to know that everything is over and we can be safe in our neighborhood again," added Al Gordon.

Brewster, meanwhile, faces charges, including making a false report and obstruction.

Channel 2 crews went to Brewster's house seeking comment, but a woman at the home declined to comment on the matter.

Clayton County Public Schools released a statement regarding the sniper scare.

The statement reads in part: "Although it is regretful that school officials, parents and students were subjected to the worry and inconvenience surrounding this incident, we are all relieved that the situation appears to be resolved.  School system administrators are very grateful for the support we received from all our stakeholders including community members, school administrators and teachers and all public safety departments involved.  We will continue to make the safety of our students our first priority."
