NEWNAN, Ga. —
Songs of praise and joy were sung inside Stonepoint Church in Newnan Sunday morning, even though outside vandals had made their mark by stealing copper from the air conditioning units.
This is the second time Stonepoint has been hit, according to church authorities.
"I was pretty surprised in one respect because it hit us personally, but it’s such a problem in this area that I'm really not surprised," pastor's assistant Christa Carrier said.
But Stonepoint isn't the only church that's been hit. Crooks also hit the Hills of Hope Outreach Ministries in Decatur.
Channel 2 Action News was at their Friday night prayer service when everyone had to use fans to keep cool.
Despite the theft, songs kept going Sunday at Stonepoint and everyone was able to stay cool through a backup AC unit, but they also kept their cool thinking and praying for those who committed the crime.
"It made me wonder about the problems in their lives to stoop to do something like this. We would welcome them with open arms," Elaine Suttles said, who is part of the Stonepoint congregation.
