Cherokee Teacher Charged With Child Molestation

 

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. —

A middle school gym teacher and basketball coach is jailed after allegedly sexually assaulting a 13-year-old student.

The student, who attends Creekland Middle School in Cherokee County, reported the alleged incident to Cherokee County School resource officers. School officials launched their own investigation and later turned it over to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities arrested Steven Emanuel, 46, of Woodstock, and charged him with child molestation and sexual assault.

The alleged incident took place Sept. 25 on school grounds.

School officials said the victim was not a student in any of Emanuel's classes, nor was the student a member of the basketball team that Emanuel coaches. School officials said the teacher has not resigned.

Emanuel is being held without bond at the Cherokee Adult Detention Center.
