CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. —

Cherokee Sheriff’s Office detectives have taken additional charges against Matthew Gantz, the Cherokee High School teacher who was arrested last week for sexual assault against a student.

Officials said a new victim has come forward and reported to detectives that she had a sexual relationship with 41-year-old Gantz in 2005 when she was still a student at the school.

The new charges are three counts of Sexual Assault of a Person in Custody. Gantz is being held in the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center with a $60,000 bond.

Gantz was originally arrested Saturday after allegedly sexually assaulting a former student. Detectives said he allegedly assaulted the female student when she was 17. The student told authorities that the assaults began in 2007.

Authorities said Gantz is charged in that case with two counts of sexual assault and one count of tampering with evidence.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and that more charges are possible.
