Authorities said the driver, also 17, was traveling southbound on Ebenezer Road when he encountered a curve and lost control of the 2005 Nissan Altima.

Authorities said the vehicle ran off the road and struck a tree.

Authorities identified the victim as Mariyam Crossley of Conyers, a senior at Heritage High School.

"She was pretty much one of the true friends that I had...I could call on her at any time and she's not here anymore," said a close friend of the victim.
