Boyfriend Charged After Woman's Body Found In Burning Home

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. —

Police have arrested a man in the death of a woman who was found shot inside her burning home.

David Norton, 39, of Lawrenceville was arrested early Wednesday at the Days Inn Motel in Norcross.

Police said Amy Ayer, 43, was found in an upstairs bedroom in the burning home on Tuesday. She had been shot.

Norton was charged with first degree homicide and first degree arson.

Investigators said Norton was the Ayer's boyfriend.

Officials responded to the Lawrenceville home on Sentinel Parkway after two teenaged boys arrived home to find heat and smoke. The teens evacuated and called 911.

Fire authorities said Ayer's body was found inside the home. Officials said they were able to extinguish the fire.

Flames were not visible from the outside of the home. Officials said there was a lot of smoke coming from the back of the second floor of the house when they arrived.
