ATLANTA —
SLIDESHOW: Atlanta Public TV Show Celebrates 10 Years
"In Contact," a news and public affairs show that provides an African-American perspective on current events, is taped and produced at WSB-TV.
AABJ members and supporters gathered at the station’s midtown studios Thursday to mark the show’s 10th anniversary with a special reception.
Among those in attendance were WSB-TV general manager Bill Hoffman, Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin and journalists from across metro Atlanta.
Franklin presented Angela Robinson, the longtime host of "In Contact," with a special Phoenix Award on behalf of the city.
“Your work has impacted not just the people of Atlanta, but also the media industry and has set a standard that allows people to see America through the eyes of African-Americans,” said Franklin while presenting Robinson with the award.
In 1998, AABJ made history when it became the first chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists to debut its own television show.
"In Contact" now reaches more than 1.5 million people. The show is broadcast each Sunday on WPBA-TV Channel 30.
“We’re doing this 10 years from now to celebrate 20 years. I believe in this program tenfold,” said Hoffman.
