An Atlanta police officer remains in the DeKalb County Jail after he was arrested and charged with battery.

Channel 2's Ryan Young learned from sources that Officer William Brown was arrested Sunday on simple assault and battery charges, after his girlfriend dialed 911 asking for help.

In a police report, his girlfriend claims Brown pushed her to the ground after the two got into a heated argument. Neighbors said DeKalb and Atlanta police were all over the street.

"I come out to walk my dog, and there are police cars up and down the street. That doesn't occur here," neighbor Robert James said.

According to a police report, Brown's girlfriend, Romona Porter, claims they were fighting over another woman when she walked out of an upstairs room and heard a gunshot.

Porter claims Brown was standing in the room with a rifle in his hand and said he was prepared to die and would shoot any police officer who came to the house, according to the report.

That's when Porter called 911.

James lives across the street from the home on John Carrol Drive. James said police made it clear to stay down while the incident was going on.

"We were all instructed to stay away from the windows and to stay inside," James said.

The police report said Brown then left his house and was last seen running toward a wooded area.

Police eventually caught Brown and was placed in the DeKalb County Jail.

Brown was granted a $10,000 bond. At last check he had not posted his bond.
