Accused Fake Doctor Released From Jail

Eric Perteet Released On $12,000 Bond

ATLANTA —

The man accused of impersonating a doctor at Piedmont Hospital is out of jail.

Eric Perteet insists he's not quite the person portrayed by the news media and his estranged wife.

"I can say that it was wrong, but I'm not really at liberty to get into the details of it right now," said Perteet in an exclusive interview with WSB-TV Channel 2's Tom Jones.

Police claim Perteet wore hospital scrubs and a stolen Piedmont Hospital ID badge while wandering the hospital corridors.

His wife, Tammi Perteet, said she dropped him off at Piedmont believing he was a doctor going to work.

Perteet insists he's not a bad person.

"Just like a chef that may happen to make one bad dish, that doesn't say that he's a bad chef," he explained. "That just means he made a mistake somewhere; made that particular dish not too tasteful."

Tammi Perteet is seeking a divorce since learning of Eric Perteet's alleged charade.

Eric Perteet said he wants to save the marriage, but admits he deceived his wife and understands her anger.

"I totally agree that I wouldn't be happy, I'm not happy about what I did," he said.

Perteet was released on $12,000 bond on multiple charges.

Piedmont Hospital officials insist Perteet never had any direct contact with patients.
