6 Vehicles Stolen; Chase Ends In Crash

ATLANTA —

Officials are investigating after they say at least six vehicles were stolen from a car rental company and a chase of one of the vehicles ended in a crash.

Police said the chase began in Newnan early Friday morning when an officer saw a “motorcade” of stolen vehicles leaving the parking lot of an Enterprise Rental Car store.

Officials said when the officer activated his emergency lights, the drivers all scattered in different directions.

Georgia State Patrol troopers and Coweta County sheriff’s deputies were able to locate one of the suspected stolen vehicles, a Jeep Commander, and began to pursue it.

Authorities said the chase took them on Interstate 285 and Interstate 20 before going onto Atlanta streets.

A GSP trooper told Channel 2 Action News reporter Darryn Moore that the thief was driving on the wrong side of the road at one point.

A trooper attempted a PIT maneuver but the suspect slammed on the brakes, causing the trooper to hit the driver. The Jeep driver lost control of the vehicle and ended up in a ditch on Donald Lee Hollowell Drive.

Police said the driver got away on foot. A helicopter and K-9 search turned up nothing.

Authorities have not yet located any of the other stolen vehicles.

Officials continue to investigate.
