2 Children Killed In Coweta House Fire

COWETA COUNTY, Ga. —

Coweta County fire officials said two young girls died in an early morning house fire Sunday.

Fire officials responded to the house fire on Roger Arnold Road in Grantville at about 6 a.m., said Deputy Chief Todd Moore of the Coweta County Fire Department.

Upon arrival, crews reported heavy fire conditions in two rooms and the attic. Fire crews worked to suppress the fire while search crews searched for two children who were still in the home, Moore said.

Fire crews were able to locate a 5-year-old girl and a 9-year-old girl inside their bedroom, Moore said. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The parents and five other children escaped. Fire officials said the father suffered burns after attempting to rescue the two girls. All seven members of the family were transported to Piedmont Newnan Hospital for evaluation.

Moore said there were no signs of working smoke detectors in the home.

Officials continue to investigate the cause of the fire.

The victims’ names have not been released.
